| In 1991, the Salzburg musician,
Wolfgang Brunner, founded the ensemble Salzburger Hofmusik performing in
various settings from trio to full orchestra. The repertoire encompasses
works mainly from the 17th to the early 19th century concentrating on the
music of the Royal Church Choir under the Salzburg Prince Bishops. The name Salzburger Hofmusik comes from the 18th century and meant in the vernacular of those times, the Royal Church Choir of the Prince Bishops. From the time of its founding, Salzburger Hofmusik programs were performed that established Salzburg's integration into the music history of Austrian and European cultural traditions. Along with this came scholarly work, exploiting sources that until now had gone unnoticed or had been unjustly forgotten. In order to present performances that are as authentic as possible, the ensemble plays mainly (but not exclusively) on historical instruments or on faithful copies of originals. |

The use of historical instruments
and of the stylistic knowledge of performance practices, give a lively impression
of the fascinating colors of each musical epoch. Salzburger Hofmusik
has been invited to all important Early Music Festivals e.g. in Brügge,
Utrecht and Herne, as well as in Salzburg for Mozart Week continuosly since
1998, where they performed chamber and orchestral concerts.
CD productions with Salzburger Hofmusik are promoted by CPO, felicitas and Äolus. Many recordings are premiers of Salzburg compositions from the baroque and classical periods. Among them are the oldest existing Salzburg opera, "Arminio" by Heinrich Ignatz Franz Biber, (CPO), Christmas Music from the Court of the Salzburg Prince Bishops (felicitas), and forerunners of the Mozart Church Sonatas (Music at the Salzburg Court/ CPO). In addition felicitas has produced harpsichord and piano concertos by W.A. Mozart as well as two CDs: "Beethoven and Folk Music", and in cooperation with the Tobias Reiser ensemble, "Schubert and Folk Music". Under the CPO label, Salzburger Hofmusik has recorded Divertimenti by Johann Michael Haydn, early baroque sacred concertos ("Harmonia Concertans") by the Carinthian master, Isaac Posch and Johann Christian Bach's Sonatas op. 16 for Hammerklavier and Flute or Violin.
